OSI Industries are rooted to a Germany-immigrant community in Chicago, Illinois. Two years after the group had arrived in the United States in 1909, Otto Kolschowsky opened up a small meat shop to serve his community. The business boomed, and by the end of first world war he had expanded into the wholesale business side, and by 1928 the business was rebranded as Otto & sons. In 1955 Ray Kroc opened up the first Mcdonald’s restaurant, but before doing so, he had agreed with Otto & Sons to be the franchise’s first supplier of fresh ground beef. Over the next two decades, OSI Group had transformed from regional supplier Otto & Sons to global corporations. By 1975 Otto &Sons became OSI Industries as part this transition, it had now grown from a family butcher shop to a technologically advanced company operating on the scale of a manufacturer. The concentration of OSI’s manufacturing capabilities in response to McDonald’s continued to grow, and by 1977 it opened the first outside facility in West Jordan, Lavin later became the chairman and CEO of OSI Group in early 1980’s.OSI Group for decades now has grown and expanded across the globe, and It is this history of superior client relations, technological innovation, and the early recognition of growth opportunities that has led a small German butcher shop to grow into one of the world’s leading food providers.
